Bear Test 8.3.2015

8.3.2015 Tulhu went to a bear test in Lahti. Test is made to see how the dog reacts to a bear. All breeds can be tested. This kind of bear test does not only measure hunting instincts but also tells the owner if the dog might be in danger if you see a real bear. One of the goals of this test is to make dogs recognize the bear scent so in a real situation they know what's waiting in the forest. There is also a similiar wolf test.
The bear is a real taxidermied remote-controlled machine bear and real bear poo is used for scent marking the bear and making the trail.

There are also other kinds of bear tests in Finland. Some which are made to measure bear hunting instincts. Also bear-barking contests are arranged. The bears are all similiar machine bears.

1. Dog's reaction to trail A: Strong, starts to follow the trail
2. Reaction when sees the beast C: Moves behind the owner
3. Bark work A: Starts barking immediately, occasionally barks directly to the bear
4. Functional capacity when beast is moving B: Middle-level
5. Courage B: Middle-level (occasional eye-contact)
6. Distance B: Great distance
7. Desire to fight C: Middle-level
8. Dodging and agility A: Very fast
9. Working durability B: Middle-level
10. Recovering A: Recovers immediately
